NSW rapist who wore a ghillie suit as he attacked child, jailed

The man dubbed the 'ghillie suit rapist' has been jailed for a maximum 28 years by a judge, who said; "society has no place for a person like you".

Troy Johnson, 33, was wearing the camouflage gear when he grabbed a 12-year-old girl at Narara on the NSW Central Coast in May 2017.

Also armed with a knife, he placed her in a headlock and walked her into bushland alongside the path she had been walking along.

"Don't scream, don't scream or I'll have to hurt you," he warned her.

He also used cable ties to bind her hands and feet before he assaulted her in an ordeal which lasted close to an hour.

Afterwards she ran to school, crying.

When he was arrested, he was also charged with indecently assaulting and grooming a girl from the age of 10.

The court heard he had installed a camera in the bathroom of his home to record female visitors from as far back as 2007.

There were also concerning conversations with a friend, in which the man said he wanted to rape someone and another in which he gloated about what he had done.

The attacker wore a camouflage suit.

"Dude you'll never believe what I just did. I tied up a schoolgirl," he said.

He initially denied the allegations before pleading guilty to 10 charges.

Today, he stared directly at Judge David Wilson with a frown on his face, as his horrific crimes were detailed in court.

Judge Wilson, referring to the "detestable conduct of the perverted offender".

He called him evil and depraved.

Johnson can be identified after media organizations fought an attempt to keep his name and face hidden.
